The service
Crescent Shovel clears one driveway, the sidewalk out front, and the ridge the city plow leaves across the apron in Crescent Heights, Calgary. A snowblower does the work. Snow goes on your lawn.
We start at 6:00 a.m. If the city plow buries the apron after we leave, we come back for the ridge the same day. That second pass does not cost another bid.
Ice bonded to the pavement gets scraped down. A polished sheet may remain.
The line
The morning list keeps the ten highest bids. Bids start at $40 and move in steps of $5. The higher bid is cleared first. The same amount keeps the earlier place. A bid that does not make the ten is turned away. If a higher bid takes the last spot, the bid that falls off is refunded. The line locks at 6:00 a.m. Calgary time. After 6:00 a.m., a new bid joins the next morning.
Where we work
South of 16 Avenue, north of Memorial Drive and the Bow, west to 4 Street NW and Crescent Road, east to Edmonton Trail. We do not clear the rest of the city.
A full morning
Ten houses are cleared. A spot that stays on the list is cleared before we stop. If a higher bid takes the last spot, the bid that falls off is refunded. If the machine or the weather makes the route unsafe, we refund that morning.
The public board
The board shows a first name and a street. House numbers, phone numbers, and notes for the crew stay off the board.
